Workforce Circle Celebration

Last Sunday, 40 people gathered to celebrate the workforce circle at Pho Hung in Aspen Hill. Over the course of 7 months, 14 residents in Wheaton have completed the empowerment circle together, learning new skills, building new awareness, and taking action to create new pathways for jobs.
One such resident is Mavis Reeves. Most people recognize Mavis as the amazing walker, always moving and making things happen. She has hosted a birthday celebration for the group at her home. She walks 7 miles a day. She is a grandmother, originally from Barbados.
Mavis connected to the Wheaton network through Tuesdays Together, and Neighbor Exchanges. Mavis knocked on doors, passed out flyers, and talked to residents at different community events. She most recently completed computer classes at the Gilchrist Center, and just secured training through Montgomery Works to put herself closer on a path to become a nurse.
