Power and Voice!

Posted by sebastianbrown on March 3, 2011

This past Saturday nine core Long Branch network members met to discover their personal kernel of power and dialogue about how to best use their power toward moving forward the group’s Photo Voice project. With the help of facilitator Mary McCurty we spent several hours reviewing and discussing Kaleel Jamison’s “The Nibble Theory and the Kernel of Power” in entirety. Highlights included the group using its new sense of empowerment to take more ownership over the process by questioning what exactly the group’s goals and methods are; while sharing her kernel of power to her small group members one participant was overcome with so much anxiety and grief about a crisis she is currently facing that four other women took a half hour during lunch to console and troubleshoot for her!

We split the larger group up into pairs that were each assigned with digging into a specific section/theme of the book and then reporting out. You can read for yourself what the group came up with!
