Holiday Party: Celebrating the Gift of Community Come Rain, Snow or Bitter Cold!
Posted by noelleth on December 17, 2010
Thanks to a really amazing team of party planners (Cordelia, Judith, Mavis, Lyn and Ana), we enjoyed a warm and festive Holiday Celebration this past Tuesday.
In spite of the bitter cold and crazy traffic on Georgia Avenue, network members came together to celebrate the holidays at Tuesday’s Together in Wheaton. The spirit and energy for the celebration started building from the moment we started setting up for the party. At 6PM, people started poring in, bundled up, carrying a dish lovingly prepared for the potluck, and a big smile on their face. Throughout the evening, people connected, took pictures, danced and exchanged the gift of food, family, joy and community.
There were tones of unforgettable moments at the holiday celebration. Here are my top 4 moments that I am grateful for:
- Magdalena from Catholic Charities humming softly, as she and Ana from Puerto Rico decorated and transformed the Neighborhood Service Center space, lighting it up with their infectious spirit. Thank you ladies!
- Seeing the amazing spread of food prepared by our network members! My taste buds were really delighted when I introduced them to Amelia’s papusas, Mavis’ banana bread, Ana’s bread pudding, the rice pudding made by Pedro’s wife and much more!
- Kevin and Alpha, our volunteer English instructors and talented DJ’s got us all connected through the universal language of music and managed to keep a tough crowd dancing.
- I got to practice and brush up my Bachatea with Mario. Thank you Mario, Michael, Lyn, Barbara and Joe for sparking the dance party!
I cannot think of a better way to end 2010 and usher in 2011.
