Neighborhood Opportunity Network

Supporting one another in a time of crisis

Long Branch caught that door knocking fever

Posted by sebastianbrown on December 16, 2010

10 Long Branch network members–half of whom were members of the Women’s Circle that brings together Jewish and immigrant women–nearly finished up knocking on all of Flower Branch’s 365 doors last night. To warm up in the frigid temps before heading out, we sipped on tasty hot chocolate made even tastier with dollops–more like straight scoops–of whipped cream. As always, we were encouraged by the amazing warmth of our neighbors despite the tough times and cold weather we find ourselves in.

In particular, Avery, Joy and I talked to a woman who said that despite not having found clients for her house cleaning business for a couple weeks she has been taking care of a neighbors’ 2 year old daughter–at no cost–several days a week. In return, the neighbor (who has her own car) has been driving the other lady’s daughter to school each morning. Just another reminder that even in ways that we don’t realize or see, or don’t directly facilitate, every single day folks come together and support each other. I suppose we’re just here to bring people together in spaces that make them more comfortable to do this even more often and more intentionally. What great work we’re blessed to participate in!
