Sharing the eternal light of leadership

Last Saturday we had our closing ceremony for Gaithersburg Neighbor Corps! We celebrated our last formal meeting, but there will definitely be many more informal meetings to come!
After our hello circle, we all put stickers on a circle in the middle of the floor signifying our commitment to the group and continuing action. Most of the group put their stickers towards the center of the circle, meaning that they are very committed!
During a delicious dinner from Silver Spoon, we watched a slide show of pictures from over the last 3 months that we’ve all been together.
For our next activity, we were going to have participants each write letters to one person that they felt a connection with in the group. However, some people didn’t feel comfortable doing that, so instead we went around the circle and shared an appreciation that we had for someone in the group, until everyone had been appreciated! Check out these appreciation stories!
To end, we had a candle lighting ceremony where everyone got a candle with their kernel of power written on it and a group photo. Then everyone went around the circle, lighting each others’ candles, again saying either something they appreciated about that person or sharing their power with them.
Lastly, we surprised Claudia with balloons, cake, presents, and a card from the group! She was very grateful and said that she will take our good wishes and a piece of each of us to pass along to her baby so we’ll always be remembered.
Good job Neighbor Corps and we’ll see you this Thursday!
So group, who’s bringing the food?

And Jean Paul and Kim telling it in French!
