Supporting one another in a time of crisis

Knock Knock: Its the Neighbors Campaign!

Posted by soriasoria on February 22, 2010

My first experience Door Knocking was great. We reached over 120 doors but the most wonderful thing was being able to be part of our neighbor’s life for a couple of minutes.

Martha Santos was my door knocking partner, she was great. The way she interacts with our neighbors gave me so much confidence for the next door to knock.

Many questions from our neighbors regarding jobs and health services were the main issue discussed during the door knocking, which was answered on our neighbor’s exchange on Thursday night.

Seeing Mrs. Cecilia that night made my day. I had knocked on her door and talked for almost 20 minutes with her. She is a very active member in our community; she does child care at the community center every week and helps at a church near by. The loveliest part of her is her wiliness to help and support her neighbors; you can’t miss her when she comes in the room with her beautiful smile and cane by her side.

Our resources partners in the health care circle were patient, taking their time to answer all the questions our neighbors had and explaining the details of how to access services. Our special thanks to Luis from Montgomery County and Ayana from Holy Cross.

Next time you hear a door knock, it’s probably us.
