Neighbors + Barbecue = Community!
Posted by Neighborhood Opportunity Network on September 16, 2009
Wheatononians came together this past Thursday to celebrate an evening with the Neighbors Campaign at Wheaton Regional Park. The event, organized by IMPACT Silver Spring staff and volunteers, had a huge turnout once again! More than 70 neighbors, families and children came together to enjoy one of the last few days of summer with their community.
While adults recollected memories of “Door Knocks” and its impact, children particularly enjoyed their opportunity to beat open the Elmo piñata for their favorite candy. Thank to Maritza, a Wheaton neighbor who made the piñata and Chris who prepared the yummy food. You can see the pictures from the barbecue on the Neighbors Campaign Facebook Group Page. If you haven’t joined the group page yet, this will give you a reason to do so.
The campaign has been particularly successful and popular with the residents in Wheaton. We had a few neighbors at the barbecue who were willing to host a Neighbors circle in the future. Thanks to the awesome staff and volunteers that have put in hours of door knocks to bring the Wheaton residents together in this economic climate and connect them with the resources within their community.
