Faith Communities within the Network

Posted by Neighborhood Opportunity Network on May 30, 2009

Another positive outgrowth of the Neighbors Campaign are the new connections being forged with faith communities, always a tricky alliance for local government.  Community organizers are often viewed as competitors of faith-based leaders, as they do their own brand of door knocking to recruit new members and leaders.  As chronicled below in earlier posts, the Neighbors Campaign has forged very positive relationships with two faith communities, one in Gaithersburg and one in Silver Spring – but both serving West African communities throughout the region.  Listen to Amie Jallah, Executive Director of a community-based nonprofit associated with the Bethel World Outreach church in Silver Spring as she talks about how to expand the network and the Neighbors Campaign.
