Lilana and I spent this morning driving around the 20906 zip code — in the northern part of Silver Spring, part of the Kennedy High School cluster.
With the Neighborhood Service Center at Catholic Charities set to open at the end of the month, we wanted to start reaching out to property managers and also get a better idea of the neighborhood (I grew up right down the road, but I needed a refresher!).
We already knew of some apartment communities right on Bel Pre Road and Georgia Avenue, but were amazed to find so many large apartment and condominium complexes hidden off those main roads.
I ran into a few property manager friends at the Manor and Westchester West and all were excited to hear about the campaign moving into their part of the County. Melissa, the Property Manager at The Manor Apartments (who attended IMPACT’s last Property Manager Luncheon) said she knows many residents that could benefit from more information about rental and utility assistance. She told us that after the Luncheon, she gave the rental assistance information to a resident close to eviction. This neighbor was able to get help from the County and is still in her apartment thanks to the connection Melissa made!
We are looking forward to meeting more neighbors in 20906 over the next few weeks.
