Organizations Gather in Gaithersburg

Posted by wintateferi on March 2, 2009

Karla Silvestre, the Latino Community Liason for the Office of Community Partnerships (OCP), and Crystal Carr, the Director of the City of Gaithersburg’s Office of Community Services, teamed up to gather a large group of community leaders to learn more about the Neighbors Campaign. The gathering of over 30 people included members of the Upcounty Latino Network, the Gaithersburg Clergy Association and the Gaithersburg Coalition of Service Providers. Tim and I briefly reviewed the objectives of the Campaign, emphasizing the primary goal of engaging low income residents who remain isolated from available services and isolated from each other, in a way that helps prevent crisis for those in serious need and begins building circles of mutual support among residents. Many good questions were asked and there was a great spirit of collaboration and flexibility when the responses about how people can jump in and help were not always clear. Tim reminded those gathered – as we say to each other often – we are trying to build and fly a plane all at the same time.
