City of Gaithersburg Powwow

Posted by frankieblackburn on February 20, 2009

On Wednesday we visited Crystal Carr, the Director of Community Services for the City of Gaithersburg, and Maureen Herndon, Program Manager, to learn more about the rich array of community organizations working together to provide a strong safety net in the City. It was wonderful to hear about the number of bridges that have been built across nonprofit, government and business lines – all in a spirit of collaboration and cooperation to ensure a quality of life for all in the City. We brainstormed a number of ways to connect and leverage this network with the Neighbors Supporting Neighbors Campaign and focused a lot of discussion on the value offered by the organized faith communities in Gaithersburg. We also acknowledged that we are all trying “to fly a plane still being built” and need room and space to see what can emerge, as we begin knocking on doors together. See Maureen’s comments about the existing network of over 60 services providers in Gaithersburg.
