Partnership with Asian Communities

Jayne Park, Co-Chair of Montgomery County’s Asian Pacific Islander American Advisory Committee, convened several Asian-based social service providers this past Friday to talk about the Neighbors Supporting Neighbors Campaign and how they can contribute, both in terms of outreach in the neighborhoods and in linking vital emergency and non-emergency services.
The following people and organizations participated in the meeting: Sharon Wong with Asian American LEAD; Won Lee, Korean Community Services Center; Myron Quon and Marita Etcubanez, Asian Pacific American Legal Resource Center (APALRC); Diane Vu, Maryland Vietnamese Mutual Assistance; Chan Park, Winta Teferi and Frankie Blackburn, IMPACT Silver Spring.
The meeting was held at the shared offices in Wheaton of AA LEAD and APALRC. The group shared honest input around challenges in conducting outreach in the extremely diverse Asian community in Wheaton and beyond and brainstormed ideas for leveraging and linking services in the newly proposed Neighborhood Safety Net Centers.
